Apple, patents and ideas
There’s been a lot of commentary about Samsung’s $1b bill for infringing Apple’s patents, and I’ve found the whole case rather depressing – the patent system seems to have been abused, with examples such as slide to unlock. But it’s the attitude behind the lawsuits that is perhaps most disappointing. In 1996 in a PBS documentary…

5 music videos which don’t take themselves too seriously
Since MTV started in 1981 with Video killed the radio star, music videos have been a big part of musical culture. It’s a shame when they’re just 3 minutes of someone singing into a microphone, so here’s five that stand out for me for making the most of the opportunity and not taking themselves too…

Opening titles – making the effort.
Good to see some real thought and imagination put into the opening titles on Game of Thrones: As opposed to another recent TV favourite of mine, Fringe, is pretty dull:

[vimeo width=”400″ height=”225″]http://vimeo.com/18460233[/vimeo] Two projectors were used on a white room to completely transform the appearance. Thanks to www.mr-beam.nl/project/1 and www.etre.com/blog/2011/02/living_room/at the Etre Blog…

Then 25 lttrs n th alphbt asks readers to “substitute in your mind “brand” for “placebo” The brain eh? Weird.

Name that tube and flag that city.
Today I found a new way to challenge my London knowledge, which was a map of Zone One of the London Underground without any of the station names. You have 10 minutes to type as many of the station names as you can remember and watch as your answers get added to the map. I…
